Hélène Fotopoulos is ineffective; must be removed from office

Hélène Fotopoulos is a member of the Executive Committee in Montreal and Council President for the borough of Plateau Mont Royal. Throughout this whole debacle, she has remained silent. She has refused to hear the outcry from her own borough. She has turned a blind eye to the whole event. Clearly she is an ineffective and unresponsive representative.

Her job, as elected by us, the voting public, is to voice our concerns and to stand up for us. She has done neither. She has allowed Gerald Tremblay to order the name change, without any opposition, without any public consultation, without any regard whatsoever for the people and lives it will effect.

As concerned citizens of Montreal and especially the Plateau/Outremont community, our voice has not been heard. Moreover, it seems the louder we yell, the less our elected representatives listen.

But this can only last for so long. This must be Hélène Fotopoulos' last term in office. She has shown time and again that she simply does not care about her community, does not listen to her community, and will not act for the benefit of her community.

We will be petitioning en masse against Hélène Fotopoulos and her indifference towards the proposed Park Avenue name change. We will be soliciting support throughout the community and the Park Avenue name change will not occur!

Even if Tremblay changes the name of Park Avenue, couldn't we just change it back when we vote Tremblay and Fotopulos out of office?

Who, What, Where, When, and most importantly WHY did someone decide that renaming one of Montreal's most venerable streets was a pressing municipal concern?

I don't think you have to translate your blog into french, my friend. Most of the opposition (which, by the way, is not that great) is composed of a minority of residents, mostly anglophones. If any of you is watching french news or read french newspapers you will rapidly see that it is not even an issue worth printing. You might hate Robert Bourassa, the point is not there. I don't particularly like him either, but this Premier was in power longer then any of the others and he is responsible for some of Quebec's great accomplishments like the great hydro-electric barrages. Just for that, his name is worth remembering. And a street name is ONLY a street name. It seems to me you have too much free time on your hands.
